Halloween Prop / Animated DIY Skeleton Tombstone

This is our 2nd Halloween Prop for 2020.

For this project we used:
Scrap wood (2×4’s and OSB or plywood)
Various pieces of 3/4 inch and 1 inch diameter PVC
Small motor: https://amzn.to/3i4OU92
PVC cutter: https://amzn.to/36eFq8Y
Skull and bones: https://amzn.to/3jgaBEs

We basically built a wood stand for the motor to mount to, then we built a pvc box aroud the motor.

An Angle bracket was used to hook to the motor and the pvc post that raises the skull up and down.

The post and box made from 3/4 inch pvc, and the cross pvc is 1 inch.  This way the post can slide up and down and turn side to side.

The tombstone was created from scrap plywood.  It was painted grey, then spayed with Rustoleum Stone paint to change it’s texture.  Next it was sprayed with watered down black paint to create black streaks.  The tombstone is mounted to the base with small screws.

The base and pvc was spray painted black, and some creepy fabric was thrown around it to camouflage it more.

I used some gorilla glue, but you could probably use any kind of glue to mount the skeleton hand to the tombstone.  I also held it in place with a clamp until the glue dried.

I also attached a bone to the arm to make it look a little more “realistic”.

Finally, if you add a blue flood light, some spooky sounds, and fog, this prop really comes to life.

This is a simple, yet effective Halloween prop, perfect for a spooky graveyard scene.
